6 remarkable ways to keep your hairstyle way longer

6 remarkable ways to keep your hairstyle way longer

We are all too familiar with how much effort it takes to shape those precious strands of hair exactly the way we want them!  Do you have straight or wavy hair that falls into the type 1 or 2 category? Maybe you have type 3 hair with different sizes of curls, or type 4 hair with tiny coils or a zig-zag pattern...

Whatever the case may be, there are ways to make your hairstyle last.  No one likes to put in all that work just to wake up the next day and find that their brand new do' is looking frizzy, flat, and boring!  So, we are here to help you with a few tips on how you can keep that hairstyle fresh all week... like a pro. After all, there’s no reason you have to look like a newbie! Let's jump right in.

This tip is for those of you with type 1 or 2 hair who find yourselves in the salon every week for a shampoo and blow dry. Sometimes it looks so good that you don't want to wash it right away, but then you risk getting oil-build up if you choose to skip wash day. For this problem, there is a product called dry shampoo that absorbs oil that builds up in the hair from day-to-day.

If you are looking for ways to keep a looser curly style, check out this pictorial on how to do a pin curl. Since your hair will already be curled, feel free to skip wetting your hair and go straight to the pinning. Take each curl and follow its shape all the way up to your head and pin it. When you take the hair pins out, you will have the same style the next day!

If your hair is a kinky/curly texture, otherwise known as type 3 and 4, you may find yourself trying things like braid-outs, twist-outs, bantu-knots, etc. It can be tough to preserve your curls without producing frizz at night.

One way to make sure those curls remain fresh is the pineapple method! When you are ready to style your hair again, separate your curls as desired with your fingertips while using a few drops your favorite serum or lightweight oil.

Lastly, always remember a satin bonnet or scarf is always your best friend when it comes to protecting your hair at night!

  • I just went to the beauty shop and had it shaped and dyed. Easy to take care of because the curls come out like I like. with a little gel.

  • I love my silk cap and my hair loves it too. I bought everyone: sister, nieces, and myself caps for Christmas. We all love them. My niece has since bought several colors for her and her daughter; my grandniece. I plan on ordering more as I have almost worn mine out!

  • Cuma,

I also bought 4 caps and am having the same problem. Since I love the caps I’ve resolved most of the problem by snipping 2 small slits about 3-4 inches apart towards the elasticized front end of the cap THROUGH THE OUTSIDE CLOTH PART ONLY! DO NOT CUT THROUGH THE ELASTICIZED PORTION OF THE CAP! Run a coordinating colored ribbon through the slits and tie in a small bow to take up the slack. This has helped to hold my cap in place through the night.
